Various books and journals and class tutorials and study materials have been considered to explain all the topics. The report will be evaluating all 12 different topics that will help to achieve the goal of the report.

Topic 1 – Business leadership in an ever-changing environment

The industry that has been selected for the particular project is Food and Beverage industry and the organization that has been chosen for the particular topic is The Coca-Cola Company. This organization offers various beverages like sodas, sparkling and flavoured drinks, carbonated drinks, non-alcoholic drinks, carbonated drinks, non-carbonated drinks, sports drinks, and energy drinks also (Bekimbetova et al,. 2021). A Pestel analysis will be further done to understand the macro-environment and its impact on the organization.

Political- The rules and regulations of the FDA strictly apply to the operations of the company. The government must meet all the regulations that are put by the government so that the company can sell its products smoothly.

Economical – The organization follows the rules and regulations of the government as per economic factors in every country where it sells its products. The company has made its products reasonable for every person to purchase its products easily.

Social – The company has always made it mandatory to follow the taste, culture, norms, and desires to market and sell its products in different countries around the world (Chu,. 2020).

Technological – The company has also been quite active in adapting and acquiring the latest technology to market its products and fight against its competitors like PepsiCo.

Legal – The company also maintains and ensures that it does attract any legal obligations and follows all the business ethics in different countries to maintain its legal status.

Environmental – The company has always faced issues regarding the accessibility of water for the production of beverages. The company has also suffered losses due to this issue (Serodio et al,. 2020).

In order to ensure that an organization is aware about its macro environment an organization should constantly analyse its business environment through various analysis tools. PESTLE analysis can be performed from time to time to understand the changing rules and regulations in the outside environment. There are various other tools for measuring the macro environment like VRIO analysis that will help to keep a check on the macro environment.

Topic 2 – Nascent business knowledge and skills

The business environment is changing in today’s world and therefore the leaders of different companies also need to upgrade their skills and cope with the modern world and its ways of running a successful business. Business leaders should have an equal mix of soft as well as hard skills in order to help their businesses compete with their rivals and therefore become market leaders (“Where Will We Find Tomorrow’s Leaders?”, 2022). However, there are different leadership styles that are followed by different leaders all over the world. The leadership style followed will be the transformational leadership style. As per (Alqatawenah,. 2018) this leadership follows a transforming approach toward its followers and provides the necessary opportunities that are required by the team members to grow and develop. Therefore, this type of leadership empowers its employees to produce creative results that will benefit the organizational goals as well as the personal goals of the team members. A transformational leader will always motivate their employees and the organization to bring constant transformation to the achieve best possible results that will help in fulfilling the organizational as well as personal goals. This type of leadership style has proven to be successful for many organizations and helped them grow. In this type of leadership style, a leader pursue skills like good communication skills, emotional intelligence, vision for the future, and integrity and empathy also.

To establish a self-development approach in order to become a good leader a person must practice and learn about strong communication skills so that communication is smooth within the organization. Transformational leader must have a strong vision in order to lead their followers toward the correct path and transform them. A transformational leader should also show empathy towards its followers so that he can all decisions using emotional intelligence. A leader can work on these self-development skills and work on these skills each day so that they can successfully establish themselves as a strong leader.

Topic 3 – Self-reflection: a starting point for professional development

Self-reflection is very important in today’s world for both professional as well as personal development. Self-reflection is a process through which a person is involved in the learning process throughout his or her life and therefore helps to explore and change by analyzing one’s attitude, behavior, actions, and character. Through practicing self-reflection one can define a pathway to reach its goals. One approach to practicing and developing self-reflective practice is the transformational approach which will help a person transform themselves through planning and focusing on self-development and growth. Journal writing in another way helps a person to identify the strengths and weaknesses that are present within them (“Theories on Self-Reflection in Education”, 2022). After identifying the strengths and weaknesses one can work towards achieving the balance between the weakness and the strengths. According to Horton-Deutsch & Sherwood,. (2017). Also, self-reflection practices should be included in the everyday lives of people, and providing a dedicated time slot for self-reflection learning can help in development and growth. One can also list down the areas where improvement is needed and can take the help of various self-development courses through reading books and journals or involving in real-time courses to fill in the drawbacks and therefore improve themselves. Also, interact with professionals and learned about people who can help in development through their experiences and knowledge. Also, it is important to decide how much time will be required to achieve each skill so that equal time can be given to develop and learn all skills rather than just focusing on one skill.

Topic 4 – Creativity and creative problem-solving

Creative problem-solving is a process that can help provide solutions to difficult problems and situations. The creative problem-solving process is different from the regular brainstorming process and is a process that can help leaders implement solutions immediately. There are various approaches to solving a specific problem that appears in the minds of people but the approach that will be discussed here is Jeffrey Baumgartner’s towards the creative thinking and problem-solving process (Kolodner & Penberthy 2022). In order to become highly creative, one must follow the process created by Jeffrey. The principles that are required to solve any problem can be described below

Divergent and Convergent – This step explains that thinking must be balanced. This step helps to learn how to balance contracting and expanding thinking.

Converting problems into questions – When the problems are converted into questions there are various answers to these questions that one can find. This helps the leader to identify multiple possibilities and therefore find a creative solution readily. (“Alex Osborn’s Creative Problem-Solving model | GirlsLead”, 2022)

Judgment – The problem must be provided with adequate time and instant decisions should not be taken this will not provide any particular solution to the problem and therefore will block creativity.

Focussing on YES – A leader can only find a creative solution to a particular problem if they focus on positive aspects of the problem. If a leader focuses on the yes rather than no then this helps the leader in taking the correct decision. Using negative words like but, no can lead to a negative environment (“Alex Osborn’s Creative Problem-Solving model | GirlsLead”, 2022).

Topic 5 – The power of thinking

There are various types of thinking patterns and approaches that are followed by different people in different ways. However, it is very important to develop a correct approach to thinking this will help in solving the problems and challenges and will provide creative solutions to the problems. One approach that can be taken up by leaders to solve any problem is the thinking types framework which says that different people will have a tendency to focus on ideas, processes, actions, or relationships and the final goal of the person will be focussing towards a bigger problem (“Theories on Self-Reflection in Education”, 2022). This approach was devised by Mark Boncheck and Elisa Steele. The approach will be further explained below:

Step 1 – At this stage, a person needs to focus on the area where his or her thinking is majorly focused. At this stage, the person needs to identify what are the problem areas they need to focus on and therefore needs to focus on various questions to understand which of the key areas the leader is most inclined towards. The four key areas that a person needs to focus on are ideas processes, actions, and relationships. These four key areas are the areas where a person is naturally inclined towards and thinks mostly in the direction of any of these key areas.

Step 2 – The second step should be focussed on the details or the big picture. The best way to identify the orientation is by thinking about what will bother the person in the what they are focussing on. The big picture can be defined as a macro and the details can be defined as micro details (“A Different Approach to Thinking | Calm Down Mind”, 2022).

The one approach that selected for you and is suitable as this thinking approach focusses on both short-term as well as long-term goals. In order to adopt the approach a leader must know how to identify the problem areas. Also, a leader needs to think in a creative way and then designing of effective systems within the organization. To become a critical thinker and adopt the approach it is also important to connect with people and form networks so that thinking can get broadened and therefore new ideas can be developed by the leader.

Topic 6 – Personal empowerment

In today’s world along with other professional skills, the skill of self-empowerment is meant to be absolutely necessary.  Self-empowerment helps a person to take care of themselves and therefore preserve their mental as well as physical health to work professionally. Companies today are focussing on mental well-being by taking various initiatives. However, one should know how to empower themselves and what steps one can take to fulfill the same. One of the approaches through which self-empowerment can be followed is through the cognitive approach. According to this approach to understanding the problem a person thinks about disturbing events Magolda,. (2020). There are three basic principles to improve mental problems and for self-empowerment. There are certain principles that apply to adapt cognitive thinking behavior and these are

  1. The major factor to determine behavior can be assessed through the cognitive process.
  2. This cognitive behavior can also be monitored and changed.
  3. The behavioral changes that are desired by the leaders can be only achieved through the cognitive process (“Self Empowerment Via Cognitive Approach – CBT”, 2022).

These steps will also help people in following the cognitive processes through providing the following benefits through empowering the people in the following ways:-

  1. Realization of the own feeling and thoughts of a person.
  2. Capturing the automatic thoughts of people.
  3. Analysing and modifying the thoughts of people with real thoughts.
  4. Removing negative thoughts.
  5. Recognition of stressful situations and where negative thoughts occur more often.
  6. Changing the patterns so that individuals can strengthen against these problems (“Self Empowerment Via Cognitive Approach – CBT”, 2022).

The above self-empowerment approach that has been developed can be adopted in order to attain professional skills for the corporate environment. Also, this approach is the best for self-development and growth as this approach will help in strengthening the mind of a leader and overcoming all the obstacles wherever decision making is necessary. The approach can only be developed if negative thoughts are removed and positive thoughts focussed upon and given importance. A change in behaviour of leaders must also be accepted by the leaders in order to establish the approach successfully. A good leader must also fight with their own feelings and realize their own feelings and thoughts in order to establish the approach completely.

Topic 7 – Learning to manage knowledge

In an organization, managing knowledge is extremely helpful that will help the leaders to identify and make benefits out of the knowledge that is captured. Using knowledge by following a correct approach will help the organization to make the maximum use of knowledge. There are generally two approaches to knowledge management and these are tacit and explicit approaches. The tacit approach of knowledge management allows knowledgeable people to transfer knowledge within the organization. Explicit knowledge management is applied by one person and the pattern of new knowledge and its distribution within the organization (“Approaches to Knowledge Management Cycle”, 2022). The approach that will be applied and chosen here is the explicit approach which is much more helpful and helps to create a knowledge process within the organization. Within the explicit knowledge approach, the distribution of knowledge within the organization can be done quite easily and comfortably within the organization that is present in the organization that is through the internet and intranet. This can be easily accessible by all people within the organization and therefore the learning process could be created in a learning process that has the ability to solve difficult problems. A shared learning process can also be created through internet systems within the organizations (Andriani et al,. 2019).

Topic 8 – Building relationships, networking, and mentorship

The corporate world includes building relationships, networking, and mentorship with people and in the environment where people are working. People network with each other so that they can form connections with different people and connect with them for their benefit as and when required. This will also increase the business and help in the fulfillment of the business goals. Also, through networking, one can portray their active engagements in the company apart from performing their day-to-day work. Networking and making relationships is important for both those who are looking for jobs as well as those who are currently employed. The leaders apart from managing work for their employees should also involve in the role of mentorship (Bansal, 2022). Businesses apart from making profits make special efforts to portray their images as a mentor. Leaders should especially involve in coaching and mentoring that will help them in showing the path to their followers. There are different kinds of approaches that can be followed by leaders and these are directive mentoring and coaching and non-directive mentoring and coaching. A directive approach includes the leaders transferring their wisdom and knowledge to their follower’s while that is based on the expertise and experience of the mentors. There are various advantages and disadvantages of the directive as well as directive approach. The other approach is non-directive approach where the coach will only impart knowledge and based on the listening the recipient has to find their own direction (Wolbers et al,. 2017).

Topic 9 – Establishing goals for professional development

The team leaders often tend to forget the purpose of setting goals and they lose their willpower. A goal-setting technique can help leaders to motivate themselves and strengthen their willpower so that they can achieve the goals that they have set and lose the path in between. There are different types of techniques for goal setting that can be used by leaders to set goals and follow the path in order to become successful. Below are certain techniques that can be adapted by the leaders in order to set their goals (“14 Effective Goal Setting Methods: Framework and Systems — Peoplebox”, 2022).

S.M.A.R.T goals – This stands for specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and time-bound.

HARD goals – This stands forHeartfelt, Animated, Required and Difficult.

WOOP goals – Woop stands for wish, outcome, obstacle and plan.

Micro goals – As per this technique, various small goals can be set instead of large goals that can help in achieving the final goal.

The goal that has been selected from all the above goals is S.M.A.R.T goals that help any organization or leader to define a path for their goals and achieve them as soon as possible. This technique can be used to set definite goals and define the goals at each step. The SMART goals will help the leader push themselves and also guide them to achieve their goals (Belyh, 2022).

Topic 10 – Adaptability driving opportunity

Professional adaptability can be said as adjusting to the professional environment and changing one’s attitude as per the environment of the workplace. It is important to make changes in the work as per the changing ideas and situations in the organization. To adapt to these changes a leader must possess a very strong set of soft skills like strong communication skills, problem-solving skills, interpersonal skills, creative skills, and teamwork skills (“Professional Adaptability Skills in the Workplace”, 2022). One of the theories of adaptability at the workplace is the change management theory which helps an individual to readily adapt to the environment. As per Cameron & Green,. (2019) This theory focuses on the nature of human beings to change as per the environment of the organization. Every human has different levels of adaptability and takes their own time for adapting to the work environment. This theory helps in understanding the various steps for adapting to the changes within the professional environment. These steps are:

  1. Being active in the information that is provided within the organization.
  2. Being open to new roles and responsibilities.
  3. Practicing personal growth and development
  4. Suggesting changes in the workplace .

Topic 11 – Professional judgments and decision making

It is very important for leaders to make correct judgments apart from assigning work to their peers and also mentoring their followers. A leader should always know how to make correct decisions effectively since a wrong choice can make affect the organization and its goals (Brown and Rutter,. 2019) One of the approaches that are adopted and applied is that leader will take the decision and inform the rest of the team about the decision that the leader has taken. In this approach, the leader needs to make all the decisions by gathering information first and then informing the team members. If this type of professional judgment and decision-making approach is followed by the leaders then all the organization’s decisions will be overlooked by the leaders (“Five Approaches to Effective Decision Making”, 2022)..

Topic 12 –Stop procrastinating and do something

Procrastination is a situation that can appear due to various reasons like external stress, disinterest, laxness, feeling overwhelmed, and perfectionism. This situation can even occur due to negative self-perception. However, procrastination can be recovered by focusing on work and boosting the overall physical and mental health of the employee, and therefore this will result in increased job satisfaction and eliminate negativity from the leaders (“Understanding and Overcoming Procrastination”, 2022).

1. Being more of self-aware

2. Accepting one’s imperfection

3. Eliminating distractions

4. Focussing on short-term goals

5. Optimize the environment

6. Rewarding productivity

7. Being realistic

The above strategies and steps will be extremely helpful in eliminating procrastination at work and therefore focusing on the actual goals and targets that need to be achieved (“5 Research-Based Strategies for Overcoming Procrastination”, 2022).

The above theories are all related to growth and personal development and helping a person to overcome all the shortfalls and therefore be ready for a professional career. All the above theories will help a professional to become a leader rather than just being a manager in the organization.

The above theories can be adopted by all professionals in all aspects to develop their careers. However further deep research can be done on all the professional development topics to understand the theories and apply them in a real professional career. Also, the theories focus on personal as well as professional goals which will help a professional to understand that all aspects along with personal development is extremely important for a person.
